Figures from the chief coroner's office show that apart from old age and illness, suicide is the leading cause of sudden death for farmers. Those most at risk are aged between 45 and 64.

From July 2007 to April last year 123 farmers committed suicide. Way ahead of farm deaths caused by quad bike crashes and drowning.
