MBIE comment on NZDF judgment
2 August 2013
There are some very important messages in Judge O’Driscoll’s judgment today according to the GM Investigations Brett Murray.
“His findings of systemic omissions by the NZDF and NZDF’s ‘high culpability’ because of those omissions strongly support our view that all employers should approach health and safety as a complex system to be managed as a whole, not simply a list of individual hazards that are unrelated.
“Employers should heed the Judge’s comments that safety of employees must be their paramount consideration and that they should not wait until a tragedy occurs to review processes and procedures,” Mr Murray said.
